Perspective for Overdue Magazine
Toward the end of 2020, I began searching for a new form of exercise that i could do. We were still stuck at home, and my back pain (that I’ve struggled with since I was about 22) was getting worse and worse. A friend of mine suggested I look up Melissa Wood, an online pilates teacher with a platform of on demand videos. I took her free 7 day trial, and became hooked.
At first, I was doing her workouts 3 or 4 times a week. Then it became 5 days. Then 6. Before I knew it, I was practicing Melissa’s workouts most days - and absolutely loving it.
This newfound love of pilates is what inspired this shoot.
Shot back in February 2021 for Overdue Magazine, I took posing inspiration from the various moves I do in my workouts, and asked Caitlin Forbes, the stylist, to provide clothes which had a very opposite feel to a workout! A lot of denim felt like just the right amount of juxtaposition.
I shot these images on a mix of 35mm and 120mm film, and cropped all of the 35mm images into the same 6x7 frame as the 120mm to make them all feel cohesive. Our model, Victoria, couldn’t have been a better fit for this! This girl knew how to move.
A huge thank you to the whole team, and to Overdue Magazine for working with me on this shoot.
